1. Chicago Auto Show

North America’s largest auto show began in 1901 and has been held more times than any auto expo in the world. The 2019 event featured several world and North American automobile debuts. In all, the show featured some 1,000 display vehicles; there were also special events such as a pet adoption sponsored by Subaru and daily ride and drives. Next: February 8-17, 2020

2. National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show

In 2019, the National Restaurant Association Show celebrated its centennial, and executives kicked off the three-day affair by cutting a giant cake. On the trade show floor, some 41,000 foodservice buyers roamed amid 2,300 exhibits. The event also featured educational sessions and a World Culinary Showcase offering demonstrations from chefs like Rick Bayless and Andrew Zimmern. Next: May 16-19, 2020

3. International Home & Housewares Show

This year’s sold-out show featured more than 2,200 exhibitors from 43 countries. The event put an emphasis on influencers and kicked off with a conference that allowed 145 social-media influencers to speed network with exhibitors. The show also put a spotlight on smart and connected products, as well as specialty beverages. In 2020, the event will get a new name: The Inspired Home Show, IHA Global Home & Housewares Market. 4. Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo

This popular show lured 90,000 fans of comics, movies, television, toys, anime, and more in 2019. Along with a trade show floor packed with exhibitors, the event featured autograph sessions, panels, screening rooms, and a cosplay awards show that’s billed by organizers as “the most prestigious in the world.” Next: February 28-March 1, 2020

5. America's Beauty Show

Owned and produced by Cosmetologists Chicago, this massive industry gathering showcases innovation in the beauty business. More than 90,000 salon professionals and owners attend the show, which in 2019 featured approximately 360 exhibitors from around the globe. The event also featured runway shows, business panels, and hands-on classes in color, cuts, nails, and makeup trends. Next: April 18-20, 2020

6. National Confectioners Association’s Sweets & Snacks Expo

Showcasing innovations in snacks and confections, this candy-packed expo drew around 15,000 industry pros to McCormick Place in 2019. The event featured 800 exhibitors, including more than 200 first-time exhibitors. Highlights included a New Product Showcase, which demonstrated trends in packaging, flavors, and ingredients. Additionally, there was a newly redesigned Destination Retail experience where guests could explore technology and merchandising solutions. Next: May 19-21, 2020

7. Radiological Society of North America Scientific Assembly & Annual Meeting

Now in its 104th year, this is billed as the world’s largest medical exhibition of radiologic products and services. In 2018, the event featured 723 exhibitors and reported an official registration of 52,985. Additionally, event organizers estimate that the gathering had a $160 million economic impact on the city of Chicago. Next: December 1-6, 2019

8. Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat, RV & Sail Show

Billed as Chicago’s biggest marine and outdoor sales event, the 89-year-old show offers 800,000 square feet of exhibits. In addition to shopping powerboats, RVs, and more, guests have access to educational opportunities like sailing lessons and paddle board demos. There are also activities for kids and Tiki-style eateries. Next: January 8-12, 2020
