After a 10-year stint at Entertainment Weekly, the magazine's director of event marketing, Sheila Kelly, is leaving for a new role as director of special events and community fund-raising for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, a job she'll begin on Monday.
At EW, Kelly oversaw some 50 annual—and often bicoastal—events, including sponsorships, entertainment marketing programs, consumer movie screenings, and red-carpet celebrity functions such as the opening party at the Sundance Film Festival, pre-Emmy parties, Must List events, and upfront-related fetes in New York.In her next post, Kelly will travel less, focusing more on fund-raising and building a greater awareness for the foundation's cause. She will produce key annual events including the 1,000-guest "A Funny Thing Happened" fall gala and a celebrity golf outing in September, in addition to smaller events (many poker-themed) throughout the year.
As for why she left, Kelly said she "felt the need to do something philanthropic." Entertainment Weekly is currently interviewing for her replacement.
