Caterer and bon vivant Serena Bass of Serena Bass Catering and Events is sharing her culinary expertise through a new series of classes called Cooking the Book. Sessions typically revolve around making a three-course seasonal meal, with tips on shopping, cooking, and storing. Bass says she can do most of the cooking while the group watches, or help everyone get involved in the process. Her spring sessions include dishes like fennel and orange soup, leg of lamb with ginger and garlic, and double almond cake. Classes, which are held in a private space in the West Village, can accommodate as many as 14 people. Pricing for 14 guests is $135 per person, eight to 11 participants runs $150 a head, and for groups with fewer than eight, the cost is $200 per person.
