Dear Call Sheet reader,
Have you registered for the Event Innovation Forum yet?
This is the new conference for industry executives at the BizBash IdeaFest on October 24. Event Leadership Institute executive director Howard Givner and I have booked a slate of speakers we're really excited about:
* Wired magazine editor Bill Wasik—who organized the first flash mob—will discuss how online trends are affecting offline gatherings.
* Executives from Groupon, Stoli, Bonnaroo, and the Clio Awards will share their strategies for producing effective, innovative events.
* Experts will talk about incorporating social media, digital projection mapping, R.F.I.D. technology, and more.
You can check out the full schedule and register at www.bizbash.com/ideafestny. (You can also pick which speaker you want to sit with at lunch—if the table hasn't filled up yet. Hurry up, won't you?)

1. HANKS HATES ON TIFF: At the press conference for Cloud Atlas at the Toronto International Film Festival, Tom Hanks, who was crammed onto a small and very packed stage, jokingly complained about the overcrowded walkways at the festival. Hanks said the festival area and streets surrounding were so overrun with attendees that a reporter asked him "to use his celebrity power to make it easier to cross the street." 2. GOOGLE WEBINARS: As a foray into event-hosting, Google announced its new online education tool Course Builder, which helps users host classes, conferences, and the like online. Engadget: "The open-source Course Builder project lets anyone make their own learning resources, complete with scheduled activities and lessons, if they've got some skill with HTML and JavaScript. There's also an avenue for live teaching or office hours: the obligatory Google+ tie-in lets educators announce Hangouts on Air sessions." http://engt.co/Nnbtp9
3. HISPANICIZE 2013: The fourth annual Hispanicize 2013 conference at Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach in April 2013 will bring new offerings to attendees, thanks to partnerships with the Hispanic Public Relations Association, Hispanicize Digital, and the Public Relations Society of America. It will be a multi-industry event with content broken into categories like interactive, marketing, journalism, and film. Manny Ruiz, co-founder and creative director: “Our goal is to tangibly impact every key stakeholder, whether they’re a brand wanting to connect with influential media and bloggers, an up-and-coming filmmaker interested in financing a movie, or an industry professional wanting to learn about the next big thing in the Latino community.”http://bit.ly/TKF8Lz
4. MOBILE MESSAGING TO DOUBLE: According to a new report by Juniper Research, global mobile messaging traffic will skyrocket to 28.3 trillion annually by 2017, almost twice the 14.7 trillion messages that will be sent by the end of 2012. The major growth will mostly be driven by instant messaging, which will comprise upward of a quarter of all traffic in the next five years. http://bit.ly/PkzQ3o
5. DATING POP-UP SHOP: An Adopt-a-Guy pop-up shop from a French dating site has set up a "man boutique" that will travel from city to city offering women subscribers of the site a chance to window-shop for the perfect mate—as he stands in a glass container that looks a lot like a Ken doll box. The men on display are really models, not eligible bachelors, with the mission of creating buzz for the dating site. Yahoo: http://yhoo.it/QdTAJH
