The Los Angeles Master Chorale launched the 2012-13 season, its 49th, at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Sunday with an organ and choral music extravaganza led by music director Grant Gershon. The event also featured a glittering post-concert gala for 255 that raised $275,000 for the chorale's artistic and education programs. At the gala, which had production by Gerry Huffman of Smash Event and flowers from Chris Matsumoto of CJ Matsumoto and Sons, the chorale's signature "Surround Sing" saw 115 members of the chorale form a circle around the entire room with Gershon conducting from the center. The stunt literally surrounded the attendees with song and afforded a unique musical experience totally unlike seeing a stage performance.
