More than 300 greeting card industry folks headed to the Manhattan Center Studios to honor creative excellence in their industry at the Greeting Card Association's 13th annual Louie awards. The award is named after Louis Prang, the so-called "Father of the American Christmas Card," who is considered the creator of the greeting card industry. The awards show coincided with the National Stationary Show that took place from the 20th through the 23rd at the Javits Center.
The black-tie event was managed by Pat and Vince Ahaesy of P&V Enterprises. Held in the venue's Grand Ballroom, guests mingled onstage to view the finalists in each category while caterwaiters from Richard Ferrara served up hors d'oeuvres from Pino Luongo Tuscan Catering & Special Events. Some of the delicate hors d'oeuvres included mini crab cakes; chilled baby shrimp with lime and cilantro dressing; and portobello mushrooms marinated with balsamic vinegar.
The cocktail hour's entertainment was by Music Express, who played an easy listening selection of music. The dinner (which was served buffet-style) featured a Tuscan-inspired menu that included lasagna; Caesar salad; penne with tomato, basil and parmesan; salmon arrosto; and porcini-dusted chicken breast. On the tables, stark white centerpieces by Botanica Inc. provided a nice contrast to the bright blue tablecloths.
