To launch its new collection of big-ticket baubles, Caresse d’Orchidées, luxury retailer Cartier transformed the already grand Gotham Hall into an ethereal setting decked in images of orchids—the inspiration behind the jewels’ shapes. The idea for the orchid-filled design came from the Cartier team led by Cartier International PR director Christine Borgoltz, and was executed by Kadan Productions.
Orchids topped low tables surrounded by red padded seating. Video images of orchids danced and floated on screens around the space. Images also shone on sheer curtains that partially concealed stages Kadan built into curved red padded walls constructed within the perimeter of the venue’s existing curved walls. Halfway through the event, from behind the curtains on one stage emerged Rochas evening wear-clad models, who showed off the jewelry collection, while Nouvelle Vague—a French band that reinterprets 1980’s classics from the likes of Depeche Mode and the Cure—performed a set on the other. (We loved the sweet, sublime voices of the singers.)
Tentation Potel & Chabot’s hors d’oeuvres menu included frozen tomato and avocado “lollipopsicles,” foie gras and mango cigarette-shaped pastries, oysters with saltwater jelly and green apples, and heart-shaped toast topped with green peas.
Lest the night be only about opulence, Cartier used the opportunity to make a contribution to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
