Since film premieres give guests the opportunity to show off the fact that they’ve attended an A-list event and hobnobbed with celebrities, there’s no doubt the red carpet affairs provide an environment that is ripe for selfie-taking.
Samsung leveraged this idea to showcase its Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the phone’s “wide angle selfie” feature at Monday’s premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 at L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre. The opportunity was part of the electronics brand's partnership with the movie's producer and distributor, Lionsgate, which kicked off at Comic-Con earlier this year.
The brand set up a designated area on the red carpet where fans—winners of various contests—could have selfies taken with the film’s stars. Armed with the Galaxy Note 4, brand ambassadors dressed as members of the Capitol snapped group shots of fans with Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and other members of the Mockingjay cast as they worked their way down the carpet. The group shots, of course, highlighted the device’s ability to capture a large group of people in a single shot. (Think Ellen DeGeneres’s famous Oscar selfie if Jared Leto hadn’t been cut off.)
Organizers then streamed photos on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S wall, and fans had the opportunity to share or email their selfies using the tablets, which they could also find at four kiosks located on the carpet.
Samsung continued its presence at the premiere’s after-party, where brand ambassadors dressed as the film’s Effie Trinket character roamed the event snapping shots of guests using the Galaxy Note 4. Additionally, guests could snap a shot of themselves using the smartphone as they posed atop a replica of President Snow’s throne, and then print or share the shots using the Tab S at the on-site Samsung Galaxy Photo Station.
