Catering company Great Performances, which incorporates sustainable practices into its menu by growing produce on its own organic Katchkie Farm, teamed up with floral design firm Botanica to make their eco-conscious efforts go one step further. To help cut down on the waste associated with discarded flowers from events, the two companies created the new Flower Project service. Floral decor is made with living plants or flowers, and after an event is dispersed to a community garden or urban farm in New York City that is supported by nonprofit Just Food. Live flowers also go to the Sylvia Center's children's garden at Katchkie Farm, where at-risk children can learn about nutrition and health through the study of nature and the land.
