* INCOMING *

1. FUND-RAISING GAMES:
 The Global Citizen Festival on September 29 in Central Park aims to end world poverty. But to raise funds, the Global Poverty Project didn't just sell tickets—it turned the purchase process into a social media game. To enter a ticket lottery, festival hopefuls had to get involved with Global Poverty Project's mission via social media, which earned them potential ticket points. Those who don't receive tickets can watch the live streamed concert on a number of networks, including AOL, YouTube, and MTV. Global Poverty Project C.E.O. Hugh Evans: “If we can use the power of the citizens who are attending it and their social networks and their friends’ and families’ social networks, we can urge governments to donate over $500 million to the world’s poor through this event, which is what we are on track to receive.” Mashable: http://on.mash.to/TApgfQ

2. PROGRESSIVE PARTNERSHIP:
 Flo, the Progressive spokeswoman character, and her insurance brand are teaming up with nonprofit Dress for Success to raise money for women who can't afford interview attire. Now through October 4, the insurance company is auctioning off a gown by designer Candice Held. AdWeek: http://bit.ly/Q6L23W

3. POLITICAL CELEBRITIES:
 The Washington Post reports that not all celebrities who made candidate endorsements at the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention donated dough to the fund-raising mission. While some Hollywood A-listers paid big bucks (Eva Longoria), others gave much less (Scarlett Johansson), and some didn't donate beyond their celebrity presence (Clint Eastwood). http://wapo.st/QlORG7

4. MARKETING HALLOWEEN:
 According to the National Retail Federation, seven in 10 Americans plan to celebrate Halloween this year. The total spending on holiday-related decorations, costumes, and candy is expected to reach $8 billion, but marketers and retailers seem to miss out on that opportunity. Ad Age: "Given the consistent growth in Halloween spending, it could be an opportunity for retailers to more heavily promote the holiday. Many are caught trying to balance both Halloween and Christmas, pointed out Mike Gatti, a senior VP at the NRF." http://bit.ly/PjpaDh

5. AIRLINE BOOST:
 According to a report put out by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, while passengers are paying more to get on the plane, from ticket prices to extra fees, the profit margin of airlines has gone up. http://lat.ms/PZgNNX
