* INCOMING *

1. NEW SOCIAL MEDIA IDEAS: After pizza brand Mellow Mushroom launched a campaign where the brand followed—in person—people who followed them on Twitter, it seems that more and more brands are using social media to interact with consumers in a very direct way. The New York Times: "Brands typically use social networks as extensions of their customer service departments, monitoring Twitter and Facebook for complaints, and mollifying consumers before they get so fed up that they do something like post negative online reviews or rant in a YouTube video. But brands also increasingly are using social networks in more idiosyncratic ways to win over fans through acts of whimsy." http://nyti.ms/TM1b3B

2. BRANDS ON GOOGLE+: Mashable: “A year after Google began letting brands create profiles on Google+, the top 100 brands have an aggregate of 23.2 million fans, according to [Simply Measured]. That’s a big jump over just 1.1 million in December 2011, but still less than the total Facebook following of several brands including Coca-Cola, Disney, Converse and Starbucks. At 23.7 million, Skittles has more Facebook fans than all the top 100 brands on G+.” http://on.mash.to/S1A8x5

3. CHARITIES ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
AdAge posted a video on various marketing initiatives that the California Attorney General is getting involved with, including looking at how charities solicit donations through social media. The video reports on the best practices for promoting donations on social media platforms at the 3:32 mark. http://bit.ly/VHL74Y

4. WINE SHIPPING:
Need wine for a small event? Now you can look to Amazon, which launched its wine e-commerce store Thursday. The site is offering upwards of 1,000 different wines and charging wineries a monthly fee for participation. Mashable: http://on.mash.to/Upj0ru

5. VICTORIA'S SECRET FASHION SHOW: After the lingerie brand’s fashion show on Wednesday, attendees and models shared the same public restroom. New York magazine’s fashion blog, The Cut: “The Angels were in full hair and makeup. They wore pink silk robes with hems that barely covered their perfect rumps. The mortals, who trudged through a sludgy snowstorm to be there, wore winter coats and snow boots. Because of the combined effect of genetics, shoes, and voluminous hair, the clothed humans were, on average, a foot shorter than the unclothed ones. We were two separate species forced to share one habitat.”
