WWE SUMMERSLAM HAS SOPHISTICATED SOCIAL MEDIA PLAN: World Wrestling Entertainment's SummerSlam event in Los Angeles Sunday has planned a slew of digital integrations, including having one wrestler wear Google Glass and stream video and photos directly to the event's social hub. The efforts have helped WWE expand its event from one to several days. BOSTON: W Boston will host its first Waterwalk August 21 to benefit Charity:Water. Guest are invited to take off their shoes and carry two 40-pound yellow Jerry cans to symbolize the distance many people in developing countries walk to collect water each day. W Hotels Worldwide global music director Michaelangelo L’Acqua will program music for the event.
Barking Crab, which hosts private events, has completed an extensive renovation. The space has a new raw bar and a streamlined menu focusing on locally caught fish; the bar program has a new, local focus as well.
CHICAGO: Andrew Ettenhofer, formerly a senior producer at Fig, is now in new business development at Event Creative.
For fall events, Rockit Ranch Productions is offering customized apple-dipping stations at its Chicago restaurants. Guests can dip apples in sauces such as caramel, chocolate, and butterscotch; toppings include shaved coconut and sprinkles.

TORONTO: Canada's largest ski and snowboard show, now called the Toronto Snow Show, is October 17-20 at the International Centre . This is the show's first year at the venue.
WASHINGTON: Otakon—a national convention for anime, live-action role-playing events, manga, video games, and Asian pop culture enthusiasts—has signed a five-year deal to host its three-day event at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. More than 30,000 visitors are expected to attend, and Destination DC estimates it will generate $25 million in annual revenue for the city.
