The late spring and summer are ideal times for rooftop events. From rooftops that offer pools and lawn games to unique venues that include a water tower, here are indoor-outdoor venues in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and other cities with skyline views, beach views, and more.
1. The Sentry

The Sentry, a members-only rooftop pool club, opens May 23 at the American Copper Buildings in Murray Hill in New York. Managed by Parched Hospitality Group, the venue will hold more than 200 guests, with a pool that can be converted into a Jacuzzi for private events. The venue also will have a day menu and night menu with Australian-Asian cuisine, helmed by chef Brent Hudson of New York-based café Hole in the Wall. The club will offer morning yoga classes, pool meditation, and guided astronomy sessions.

2. 12 Stories

Penthouse bar 12 Stories opened at the InterContinental Washington D.C.—the Wharf in Washington in April. Gerber Group’s first Washington-area property features 12-foot floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace, offering panoramic views of the Potomac River and Washington skyline. The venue serves cocktails and mocktails, along with elevated bar food and brunch. The bar holds private and semiprivate events in a 3,500-square-foot space that seats 170 guests.

3. CloudM Bowery

CloudM, a rooftop bar and lounge, opened at the CitizenM Bowery hotel in New York in January. The indoor-outdoor venue spans the hotel’s 21st floor and specializes in cocktails and mocktails, beer, wine, and light bites. The 2,972-square-foot space holds as many as 145 seated or 200 standing and is available for full buyouts.

4. Novotel Miami Brickell

Following Accor hospitality group’s recent acquisition of Atton Hotels, Atton Brickell Miami has rebranded as Novotel Miami Brickell. The second Novotel property in the U.S. has 275 guest rooms, 5,000 square feet of meeting and conference space, and a rooftop swimming pool and the Vista Pool Bar. The 5,394-square-foot rootop can hold as many as 150 guests for reception-style events.

5. TWA Pool Bar and Observation Deck

TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport officially opens today, along with its Pool Bar and Observation Deck. Managed by the Gerber Group, the 10,000-square-foot observation deck features a 63- by 30-foot infinity edge pool that sits over the J.F.K. runway and offers views toward Jamaica Bay. The pool, which can be heated to 100 degrees and features a gold and red TWA mosaic, was inspired by the pool at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France. The space, which serves cocktails and food, accommodates as many as 300 guests for receptions.

6. Roof at Park South

Roof at Park South, Park South Hotel’s seasonal rooftop cocktail bar, unveiled revamped event spaces for its sixth season in May. The Manhattan venue is available for private and semiprivate events for groups of 10 to 175 guests. Spaces include a private, tented garden that holds 50 reception style; a cocktail bar with hightop tables that seats 25 guests; and a floral area that can hold 50 reception style. The venue serves summer-inspired cocktails and a bar menu from chef Tim Cushman.

7. The Hoxton, Chicago

The Hoxton, Chicago, the third Hoxton property in North America, opened in the Fulton Market District in April. The 182-room hotel has the Hoxton’s first rooftop pool, which is adjacent to Cabra, a Peruvian-inspired restaurant helmed by Stephanie Izard. The rooftop spans 1,865 square feet and holds as many as 175 guests reception-style. The rooftop can host private events; additional information is available upon request.

8. Granville

Granville, a California-based modern-casual restaurant, opened its latest location in Pasadena in April. Located on Lake Avenue, the restaurant serves globally inspired fare helmed by executive chef Glenda Galvan-Garcia, along with cocktails and beer selections overseen by food and beverage manager Marc Dix. The venue has a 2,000-square-foot rooftop bar called Bar Del Mar by Granville, offering views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The rooftop space is available for full buyouts with a minimum of 30 guests and can hold as many as 75 guests for reception-style events.

9. The Water Tower at Williamsburg Hotel

The Water Tower, a nightclub and lounge located above the Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, opened in November. Accessible through a V.I.P. elevator, the venue was constructed with materials including steel, brass, and glass, and it offers views of the Manhattan skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows. Other decor includes murals painted by local artists that are inspired by the neighborhood’s history. The venue serves contemporary cocktails from mixologist Rael Petit and upscale bar bites from chef Nic Caicedo. The space seats 45 guests and is available for private events.

10. The Lookup

The Lookup, an indoor-outdoor rooftop venue, opened at the Kixby Hotel in New York this month. The venue is helmed by Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan, founders of Black Tap Craft Beer & Burgers, and serves its take on bar food and cocktails helmed by Pamela Wiznitzer. The 2,200-square-foot space is divided into three seating areas—stadium seating, high-top tables, and a lounge area, all anchored by a center bar. The venue seats 65 outside and 50 guests inside.

11. The Fields Terrace

The Fields, a three-story event venue located adjacent to Los Angeles Football Club’s Banc of California Stadium, opened last August. The venue’s rooftop space, the Fields Terrace, spans more than 18,000 square feet and offers views of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. The space holds 350 guests seated or 700 standing. Wolfgang Puck Catering is the venue’s exclusive caterer.

12. Clinton Hall Rooftop Beer Garden

Clinton Hall Rooftop Beer Garden will open at POD Brooklyn Hotel on May 17. The 2,000-square-foot venue is powered by more than 100 solar panels and offers shareable food from chef Darryl Harmon, as well as craft beer and frosé. Like other Clinton Hall locations, the venue offers games that include giant Jenga and Uno. The space will seat as many as 125 guests and has an additional private event space that holds 200 for receptions.

13. The Upside

The Upside, an indoor-outdoor bar and lounge at the new East Austin Hotel, opened in May. The venue, which is one of three bars at the four-story boutique hotel, serves a variety of classic and modern cocktails from bar lead Kenny Tinsley and Jason Stevens, director of beverage for La Corsha Hospitality Group, which manages the property and bar concepts. Offering views of downtown Austin, the 1,765-square-foot venue holds as many as 50 guests for receptions inside and 75 guests for receptions outside.

14. Social Drink & Food

Located on the fourth floor of Yotel New York, Social Drink & Food unveiled a revamped terrace last summer. The space introduced new turf flooring and a mini golf course, along with a new aesthetic that includes black and gray furniture and white outdoor lamps. The space also offers more games such as corn hole, beer pong, and giant Connect 4. The 7,000-square-foot terrace can hold as many as 350 people standing, and it is available for full or partial buyouts.
