1. 12 KILLED IN MASS SHOOTING DURING EVENT AT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BAR: A gunman killed 12 people at a crowded bar in Thousand Oaks, California, which was filled with college students attending a "country college night" event. A police officer was among those killed during the attack. NBC News: "Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean described the incident at the Borderline Bar and Grill as a 'tragic, tragic situation.' Authorities confirmed that the shooter had been killed, but did not immediately identify him. Dean said it was too early to determine whether there was any link to terrorism. The gunman apparently was not carrying any form of identification and it will take time to take his fingerprints and run them through databases, local and federal officials said. The gunman was described as a white male, armed with a single handgun, a law enforcement source said. The police officer killed was named as Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29-year police veteran with a wife and son who was looking to retire in the next year. Between 10 and 12 people suffered injuries of varying severity, others with more minor wounds escaping and taking themselves to the hospital, Dean added. Pepperdine University, in nearby Malibu, said it believed some of its students were at the bar. It said it was working 'to identify and provide support to those students.' ... The venue opened in 1993 and describes itself as a 'haven for country line dancing folks of all ages.' It says it's hosted many famous acts including The Beach Boys. Thousand Oaks was ranked the third-safest city in the United States this year, according to the data analysis website Niche. 2. JASON BLUM REMOVED FROM STAGE AT ISRAELI FILM FESTIVAL AFTER ANTI-TRUMP COMMENTS: Filmmaker Jason Blum was booed by the audience and removed off stage after he mentioned the midterm elections and made anti-Trump comments at the Israeli Film Festival in Los Angeles. Blum was being honored at the event. Variety: "Blum was booed from the start, when he referenced the election results that were rolling in at the same time as the event. 'A lot is on the line, the last two years have been hard for all of us who cherish the freedom as citizens of this country,' Blum said. 'The great thing about this country is that you can like Trump, but I don’t have to, and I can say what I feel about it—and I don’t like it!' he continued. At that, a few people began walking out of the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. The booing and shouting continued to increase in volume while Blum, who was receiving the group’s Achievement in Film & Television Award, tried to talk over it. 'As you can see from this auditorium, it’s the end of civil discourse,' Blum continued. 'We have a president who calls the press the enemy of the people. Thanks to our president, anti-semitism is on the rise.' A man, identified as Yossi Dina, an Israeli pawnbroker who appeared on 'Beverly Hills Pawn,' stepped on stage and attempted to pull Blum offstage, while the crowd cheered and clapped. A woman called security to the stage over the P.A. system, and the man backed off. 'Enjoy the movie, and I love and respect all of you,' Blum said. 'Now I’m being physically removed, which is why Trump is not the right guy.' ... 3. BUD LIGHT TO LAUNCH ITS FIRST-EVER SUPER BOWL MUSIC FESTIVAL: Bud Light is bringing its first-ever music festival to the Super Bowl next year. The Bud Light Super Bowl Music Festival will be produced by On Location Experiences, an experiential hospitality company that works with the N.F.L. and Bud Light. The three-day event will take place right before Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Billboard: “The special event will take place over three nights at Atlanta's State Farm Arena between Thursday, January 31 and Saturday, February 2 ahead of Super Bowl LIII.
