* INCOMING *
1. NUDITY, NO MORE: Organizers of the Northern Nevada desert Burning Man arts festival filed a federal lawsuit protesting an effort to require festival-goers to cover up and tone down the event, which always includes nudity. The festival, which attracts 60,000 people yearly, would incur new costs and restrictions under the ordinance, organizer Black Rock City argued. Las Vegas Review-Journal: But "starting in 2013, the local festival ordinance will enable sheriff's deputies to regulate activities they consider to be 'obscene, indecent, vulgar, or lewd.'" http://bit.ly/PyZemJ
2. WOMEN NOW ALLOWED: Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters golf tournament, has admitted its first female members: former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore. The all-male membership had been a source of criticism and protest for years. The Hill: "It will be a proud moment when we present Condoleezza and Darla their green jackets when the club opens this fall," Chairman Billy Payne said. "This is a significant and positive time in our club's history." http://bit.ly/SIFKMO
3. TRUMP'S WINNING BID: In choosing Donald Trump to turn the historic Old Post Office into a hotel, the federal government bypassed proven hoteliers such as Hilton and Park Hyatt. But Trump and his daughter Ivanka assembled a savvy proposal that led to the contract, including selecting a local architect with historical preservation experience and offering to spend $200 million to renovate the building. Washington Post: "Their plan: a 261-room deluxe hotel with three restaurants, a Trump-branded spa, plus a lounge, 35,000-square-foot banquet facilities and a curated museum dedicated to the building’s history and the Congress Bells." http://wapo.st/NY1suq
4. KARDASHIAN WEDDING: It's been a year since the televised nuptials of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, a marriage that lasted just 72 days but provided significant exposure for the event industry vendors who worked on it. Here's a look back at BizBash's story on the wedding's impact on the industry: http://bit.ly/NVy5uw
5. BATHROOM BRANDING: A customer's emotional connection to an advertising campaign ups the chance of purchase, but one company's foray into the branding business really takes that connection to an intimate level. Star Toilet Paper, specializing in printing ads and coupons on toilet paper, charges a mere $99 for 20,000 ads. Adweek: http://bit.ly/QW91lB
6. TICKET TEAM-UP: Diving into the ticket resale market, the N.B.A. and Ticketmaster are creating a Web site for fans to buy and re-sell tickets. Associated Press: "The N.B.A. said it will offer buyers all the available ticket options for games, including tickets from the primary market as well as tickets being resold by other fans. Ticketmaster will validate every ticket purchased on the league's site." http://huff.to/OtjCXh
7. FASHION, CARS, AND DAILY DEALS: Isaac Mizrahi will launch a fashion line with General Motors to amp up enthusiasm for GM's 2013 Chevy Malibu. Sold exclusively on LivingSocial, the designs were inspired by the car's features. Mashable: "The line, 'Malibu Style,' is part of a broader effort to gear up enthusiasm for GM’s 2013 Chevy Malibu among women ages 25 to 45." http://on.mash.to/NVnFea
8. INC. RANKS EVENTS FIRM: Successful Meetings: "This year's Inc. 500 list — Inc. magazine's annual list of America's fastest-growing private companies — includes a meeting planning company: FederalConference.com, an event planning firm that specializes in government clients, ranked 23rd on the list, having experienced 6,977 percent sales growth over the past three years." http://bit.ly/OGvCln
