1. BEYONCÉ’S SUPER STUNT: Confronting the revelation that she lip-synced the national anthem during President Obama’s inauguration, the singer began her press conference with Super Bowl media Thursday by giving an a cappella rendition of the song. She also promised her halftime show would be a live performance. New York Post: “The inauguration was unfortunately a time when I didn’t have time to rehearse with the orchestra, because I was rehearsing for the Super Bowl. I’m very proud of my performance.” http://bit.ly/UIdcrG

2. TECH TROUBLES: Following a controversy in which CBS meddled in the Best in Show award at C.E.S. last month, the show announced it would find a new producer for its awards. Hollywood Reporter: “We are concerned the new review policy will have a negative impact on our brand should we continue the awards relationship as currently constructed. We look forward to receiving new ideas to recognize the ‘best of the best’ products introduced at the International C.E.S.,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president of events and conferences for Consumer Electronics Association. http://bit.ly/Wi259R

3. X GAMES TRAGEDY: A snowmobile performer who crashed at last month’s Winter X Games in Aspen died yesterday, raising safety questions about the event. A spectator also was hurt in a separate accident when a snowmobile crashed into a group of fans. USA Today: “ESPN added that it will conduct a thorough review of the snowmobiling discipline and adopt any appropriate changes. The company says it works closely on safety issues with athletes and other sports experts.” http://usat.ly/WUNj6u
