1. BROOKLYN-BOUND V.M.A.s: The MTV Video Music Awards announced Monday the show would take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. New York Post: "The live event, set for August 25, will mark the show’s 30th anniversary—and is a major coup for the fledgling arena, which opened last year as home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team. MTV president Stephen Friedman told The Post that singer Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, a Brooklyn native who owns a small interest in the arena, are at the top of his invitation list." http://bit.ly/11FpJNJ
2. STARFLEET IN THE SKY: To promote Star Trek Into Darkness, Paramount Pictures used glowing remote-controlled hover bots to illuminate the sky with the franchise's logo just as Earth Hour ended in London. Adweek: "As the hour of darkness ended, the 30 drones' LED lights (charged through renewable energy sources) turned on to form the insignia of Star Trek's Starfleet." http://bit.ly/13rrCCM
3. BRAINSTORM, MAYBE?: American Idol, looking to build interest in its live finale in May, has signed on "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen to perform—with a twist. Mashable: "[She] wants you to choose the lyrics, stage effects, instruments, dancers' outfits, and other performance elements—via online polls over the next eight weeks as part of Coke's Perfect Harmony program." http://bit.ly/10dOv6b
4. DISH DESIGNS: Drawing on an ethnic tradition, a new British restaurant is encouraging customers to submit personal stories that could wind up printed on its dinner plates. Adweek: "The sharing of stories over food was a big part of the Iranian café tradition (and restaurant tradition generally)." http://bit.ly/Znh8M7
