3. OLYMPIC ADVERTISERS FACE HASHTAG HIJACKING: Part of most branding initiatives these days involves creating a hashtag for fans, event guests, and companies to use on social media. But activists are taking over the hashtags of Olympic sponsors such as McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, using them instead to mount their own campaign against host country Russia’s strict antigay laws. This year the new “Green Festival Award” will recognize companies and brands that are innovating green solutions.
