1. NEW ORLEANS TRIES TO TAME BOURBON STREET: The famed strip in New Orleans’s French Quarter—known for raucous parties during Mardi Gras and the rest of the year—may simply be too loud. City officials are hiring acoustic experts as well as lawyers to see how to make the street a better neighbor for residents tired of the partying. New York Times: “Noise management is a highly technical issue. It entails deciding the appropriate way to measure decibels, where they should be measured and which city agency should do the measuring. It means dealing with a wide range of constituencies—including residents, bar owners, professional bands, D.J.s and street entertainers. 2. SXSW SWAG TRIGGERS AIRPORT ALARMS: As people flew home from South by Southwest, some of the swag from the festival set off security alarms at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. HUMAN CONNECTION POWERS DURACELL POP-UP: Promoting its Quantum batter line, Duracell reached cold commuters in Montreal by creating its own bus shelter, which heated up only when people joined hands to create a circuit. LAS VEGAS: Las Vegas Review-Journal: "At least one Nascar fan remains livid at Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials after he and thousands of other race fans who attended Sunday’s Kobalt 400 race were not allowed to leave a locked parking lot until an hour after the race was over. Medical researcher David Morehouse of Las Vegas said speedway parking attendants, backed up by Las Vegas police and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers, told him fans in the free parking lots could leave only after paid lots emptied.
