March 26, 2014: Is Your Hashtag Illegal?, Washington Monument to Reopen After Quake, Twitter Feed Shames Restaurant No-Shows

1. IS YOUR HASHTAG ILLEGAL?: Event planners want to choose memorable hashtags, but there are other factors to consider, too. Ad Age: “Is it okay to use a hashtag for a media event your brand doesn't sponsor? What about making a hashtag out of a competitor's brand name?” An attorney offers tips for choosing safe hashtags in a short video. http://bit.ly/1pyr9E9

2. WASHINGTON MONUMENT TO REOPEN AFTER QUAKE: After three years and $15 million in repairs, the Washington Monument will reopen to the public May 12, and the National Park Service and the Trust for the National Mall are planning a reopening ceremony for that morning. CNN: “Starting April 16, tickets for tours on future dates will be available at the park service's reservation page, www.recreation.gov. The park service will offer extended operating hours, 9 a.m.-10 p.m., through the end of summer.” http://cnn.it/1g0pmlT

3. TWITTER FEED SHAMES RESTAURANT NO-SHOWS: Ever skipped a restaurant reservation? No-shows may think again if a new public shaming concept takes off. A Twitter feed, @NoShowsMontreal, reveals the name and a partial phone number for people who skip out on their reservations. Toronto Life: “For places that aren’t blessed with lineups out the door every night, it can mean a boatload of lost cash. … The account calls out parties who fail to show up.” http://bit.ly/1pyrCpN
