April 29, 2014: The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Brands Leave N.B.A.'s Clippers After Racist Rant, Inside the Geekiest Music Festival

1. THE WORLD’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS: Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, once again topped the list of San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards, presented in London on Monday. New York's Eleven Madison Park and Chicago’s Alinea also made the top 10. CNN: β€œSome observers say the awards now hold greater sway over a restaurant's financial success and bookings than coveted Michelin star rankings, often transforming them into major travel destinations.” http://cnn.it/QVxpLM

2. BRANDS LEAVE N.B.A.’S CLIPPERS AFTER RACIST RANT: Corporate sponsors such as Red Bull, Virgin America, and State Farm are canceling or suspending deals with the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team following racist comments by the team owner, Donald Sterling. Los Angeles Times: β€œFans and even an NBA coach are calling for boycotts of games and merchandise. Free agent players may steer clear of the team, hurting future ticket sales and other income. Companies once loyal to the Clippers may reserve corporate boxes at Lakers games instead.” http://lat.ms/1m5Udm4

3. INSIDE THE GEEKIEST SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL: Moogfest, the synthetic music festival organized by Moog Music, had its largest gathering ever in Ashville, North Carolina. New York Times: β€œMoogfest, which ran from last Wednesday through Sunday, was an outlier among the music festivals this spring and summer, booking many musicians who aren’t working the circuit from Coachella to Bonnaroo to Governors Ball. … How geeky was it? Some festivalgoers wandered the streets of Asheville, wearing headset brainwave sensors that were paired with iPhones. Through their earbuds, the phones played music guided by those brainwaves from an app, Conductar, that also used location data to display a virtual-reality rendering of the streetscape.” http://nyti.ms/1jcJ9nG
