1. LOLLAPALOOZA GOES CASHLESS: Fans headed to Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer will have to use an R.F.I.D.-enabled wristband linked to their credit or debit cards to purchase food and beverages. Adweek: “‘We feel like not only will that be big for us, but it will end up spreading across some of the other major festivals,’ said Patrick Dentler, marketing director at C3 Presents, which produces Lollapalooza, the Austin City Music Festival and the Austin Food & Wine Festival.” http://bit.ly/1iMWLZy
2. PLANNER SPECIALIZES IN EXTREME BACHELOR PARTIES: Lee Abbamonte has carved out a very specific event planning niche: bachelor parties for adrenaline-filled Wall Street guys. His fees start at $10,000 a guest, and he takes them to exotic destinations from South Africa to Kiev to, of course, Las Vegas. New York: “[For a party in Las Vegas], we stayed at the Sky Villa suite: 6,500 square feet, has its own exercise room, a pool that hangs over the street, beds that spin, and private butlers who bring you food and booze any time you need it. For the daytime, we did a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, raced non-street-legal Ferraris at 180 miles an hour, shot machine guns in the Mojave desert, BASE jumped 829 feet from the Stratosphere Hotel, and flew F-16 fighter jets—fighter pilots showed us how to do all kinds of stunts and low-level mountain flying.” http://thecut.io/Tx437t
3. WORLD CUP IS FACEBOOK'S BIGGEST EVENT: Facebook users have World Cup fever, posting more than one billion interactions on the social network to make it the largest event in the company’s history. Mashable: “The World Cup has dwarfed other popular Facebook moments from the past year. Despite multiple weeks of conversation, the Winter Olympics in Sochi generated just 120 million interactions from 45 million people. The Super Bowl generated 185 million interactions from 50 million people.” http://on.mash.to/1iQCItf
