1. MEET THE COMPANY HELPING BRANDS GET MORE DATA FROM EVENTS: Anheuser-Busch InBev, Sundance, and the N.B.A. are among the clients of Splash, a new company that helps brands plan and market events—and mine the data that comes with them to turn guests into influencers. International Business Times: "People aren't using their events like marketing. They aren't using them as revenue engines. They're using them as cost centers," Splash C.E.O. Ben Hindman said. "But the best brands are, and I think we have a hell of an opportunity to show more of them." http://bit.ly/1CV5xP6
2. WHY RESTAURANTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO CASINO RESORTS: Reflecting the importance of bars and restaurants to casino resorts, the Global Gaming Expo will add a section dedicated to the “Integrated Resort Experience” at the event this fall, according to Venetian and Palazzo vice president of food and beverage Sebastien Silvestri. Las Vegas Sun: “This marks an important expansion of the gaming industry worldwide, not just in Las Vegas, as casino resorts are fully embracing nongaming revenue as an integral part of their business model and recognizing how an excellent food-and-beverage program can positively impact a casino’s bottom line. … By incorporating all of these different industries into G2E, never before have casinos’ top decision-makers, food-and-beverage executives and hospitality professionals had this grand stage to maximize their mutually beneficial businesses. The Integrated Resort Experience could begin to shape the direction of restaurants and casinos for years to come.” http://bit.ly/1D5pzX3
3. WHY OSCARS PROBABLY WON’T COPY EMMYS' SUCCESSFUL NOMINATION CHANGE: Giving up on the crack-of-dawn Emmy announcements—planned to garner air time on the morning news shows on the East Coast—the television academy said it made a humane decision that generated as much or more attention in today’s 24-hour media cycle. But the Oscars aren’t likely to make the change as well. Hollywood Reporter: "This past February, the Academy introduced a new element in how it unveils its nominations. Instead of just announcing the top categories live, for the first time, it announced the nominations in all of its 24 categories, requiring two live segments on [Good Morning America]. (By comparison, last week’s Emmy announcement, which took about six minutes, covered just the top 11 Emmy categories.) Getting national airtime for all 24 categories was considered a coup by many within the Academy — particularly by those in the crafts categories, whose achievements don’t always figure in the limelight. And having established that new tradition, the Motion Picture Academy may not want to consider a later start time if that risks sacrificing some of the attention paid to all 24 categories last time around.” http://bit.ly/1g9GHRz
