Not Everyone Is Sitting Out the End-of-the-Year Toasts

John Paulson and his firm, Paulson & Company, celebrated the performance of its hedge funds at a dinner for more than 100 investors on Monday night at the Metropolitan Club. After a cocktail reception featuring Krug Grand CuvĂ©e champagne and 2006 Chassagne-Montrachet from Domaine Marc Morey, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan spoke during a three-course meal. The menu? "Jumbo crabmeat & avocado, paired with 1999 Haut-Brion; and Colorado rack of lamb with tarragon jus and parmesan polenta cake, paired with 1999 Chateau Margaux and 1999 Lafite-Rothschild, which can fetch more than $500 a bottle," according to The New York Times' DealBook blog, which also has scans of the paper menu and a handout with details about the wines. You can guess the kinds of comments the item is sparking.
