The Mahaffey Theater for the Performing Arts began a $20 million renovation in 2004, taking over the demolished area where the former Bayfront Center Arena was located. The theater debuted its new look on May 14, 2006. The project doubled its lobby size, added more guest amenities, and expanded the ballroom capacity and versatility. It also added a three-story glass wall and atrium with waterfront views. The 2,030-seat theater serves the entire Bay area, which is made up of Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg. It offers a variety of event space. A ballroom can host 200 people, while the Bayview room has room for 100. The atrium can accommodate 200 people as well, and there's an executive boardroom for 30. A patio area can also be used for outdoor events.
