The historic Sarasota Opera House stood silent for nearly a year as renovations to the interior and exterior of the building forced the downtown staple to temporarily close its doors. On March 1, the venue's board members, patrons, and opera lovers celebrated the completion of the reconstruction with a magical performance at the official reopening gala.
Attendees were edger to be the first to enter the newly renovated theater at the ceremonial ribbon cutting, which took place one hour prior to the performance of Verdi's Rigoletto, conducted by the world-renowned maestro Victor DeRenzi. As they arrived, eventgoers had their picture taken by David Wright Photography with the opera house as the backdrop-the photos would later be put into silver frames and given to the guests as end-of-the-night gifts. Guests explored the theater's revitalized atrium and expanded lounges before the performance. During intermission, the opera house used its open-air courtyard to entertain them with a wide array of hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments.
Following the performance, attendees walked the winding red carpet to a large outdoor tent for dinner. The tables were clad in luxurious blue and gold damask linens provided by BBJ Linens. To top each table, Tiger Lily Flowers created a vignette of clear glass cylinders at varying heights with an array of vibrant blue hydrangeas and golden peach roses cascading from each.
Attendees enjoyed a decadent meal, featuring a main course entrée of rack of New Zealand lamb with a succulent port wine glaze, courtesy of Michael's on East, and finished with a decadent chocolate dessert.
