Orlando's philanthropic-minded residents gathered at the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida's Wishmaker's Ball on June 7 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate. The high-profile fund-raiser swept attendees away into a magical woodland.
Eventgoers were greeted by larger-than-life stiltwalkers dressed as butterflies with brightly colored 54-inch wings. Throughout the cocktail hour, guests were encouraged to participate in a special raffle for the opportunity to upgrade their entire table of 10 to a V.I.P. table complete with a private butler and an upgraded menu featuring lobster and filet mignon, as well as a few extra takeaway gifts.Make-a-Wish's event committee turned to Visual Impact Communications to bring its enchanted-forest vision to life. Wizard Connection draped tables with linens in organic hues such as russet reds and mossy greens and outfitted with large butterflies tied to the backs of the chairs. High-profile centerpieces made of white and green hydrangeas, white orchids, and natural branches featuring delicate butterflies finished the tables. Additionally, the ceiling of the ballroom was draped in white fabric onto which Visual Impact projected tree branches and leaves, further adding to the forest ambience.
Guests dined on a lavish meal of unique flavor combinations prepared by the Omni's catering department. The woodland-inspired menu featured plenty of fruits and spices with dishes such as port-poached pears and filet of beef with a rich fig demi-glace.
Immediately following dinner, guests were dazzled by the work of Rock Demarco, billed as the "world's fastest painter." Demarco is best known for his quick Pop Art-style renditions of famous celebrities and exotic creatures. Afterward, DJ Nick Caturano turned up the heat with dance-worthy tracks.
As the evening concluded, guests were each given a brown acrylic pail filled with gifts including a necklace from Dogeared Jewels, gift certificates from local businesses, and gourmet chocolates from Schakolad Chocolate Factory.
