More than 10,000 children and their families attended the event around Lake Eola, intended to celebrate the arts. “We ask all of the 150 exhibitors to do an interactive, art-themed activity. Even if that’s not their thing, we want them to have something interactive,” Allen said. “The great thing is that all of the activities are free. I have three kids myself, so I know what it is like when you go to an event and have to pay for every little thing.”
The festival added several new elements this year, including a hands-on Lego Play Station provided by Legoland Florida—a new theme park opening in Winter Haven in the fall—and a singing contest. Following the success of a fashion show at last year’s festival, sponsor Fused Fashion Report created an opportunity for children to dress up in funky clothes, have their hair done by stylists from Privé Salon, and then walk the runway and have their picture developed by the Nielsens Photography and Design.
The festival also offered live entertainment on two stages, including a performance by rapper Chingy; an arts summer camp expo; and a local student art show presented by 24 Orange County public schools.
