LOS ANGELES PLANS SKY-HIGH OBSERVATORY: The tallest skyscraper in the West, the U.S. Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles, is planning to add a rooftop observatory next year, similar to the One World Observatory that opened earlier this year in New York. In addition to the observation decks, the space will have event space and a restaurant helmed by Los Angeles chef Vartan Abgaryan. 3. MASTERCARD TREATS FAMILY TO UNUSUAL DINNER AT HOME RUN DERBY: MasterCard turned the center field bullpen at the M.L.B. Home Run Derby in Cincinnati on Monday into a dining venue catered by chef Marcus Samuelsson. The diners were a local family affected by cancer, chosen as part of MasterCard’s partnership with Stand Up to Cancer initiative, now in its fifth year. The unusual dining experience kicks off this year’s “Priceless Tables” campaign, which will see similar stunts with other high-profile chefs and unique venues in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
