Condé Nast Previews New Buddha-Bar

Last Tuesday we stopped by Condé Nast Traveler's annual Hot List party at the brand new, not-yet-opened Buddha-Bar New York. Guests, who included Susan Sarandon, Project Runway's Tim Gunn, Lindsay Lohan, and Rocco Dispirito, got a sneak peek at the restaurant and bar that has been in the making for three years. Guests entered through a circular tunnel dotted with Asian statues, leading to the open space dominated by a 17-foot-tall black lacquered seated Buddha. (Most guests gathered at the bar positioned in front of the statue, taking in its size and the night's signature cocktails.) Skylights above allowed the space—with its dark wood floors and dim lighting—to feel bright and airy.

Up for auction were nine travel-related items and destination packages that benefited the American Red Cross's Hot to Help campaign. Special events director Lindsay Hicky worked with Delaney T. Bagwell to create the well-attended event, which included lounge areas styled after locations such as those from Club Med, Jamaica, and Argentina. Okamoto Studio built an ice sculpture shaped like the Eiffel Tower, and the Condé Nast art department made porthole-shapes to frame photos of vacation spots for sponsor Princess Cruises.
