A handful of new lounges make it easier to beat the heat this summer and stay indoors with a chilled glass of wine or a cocktail. Here are some places to check out with a group or one-on-one with a client.

New in the upper reaches of Midtown is the Rose Club, inside the recently renovated Plaza hotel. The multilevel bar and lounge overlooking the lobby takes over the spot that once housed the Persian Room—the noted nightclub where entertainers like Eartha Kitt, Liberace, and Liza Minnelli performed. Open from 11 a.m. daily, this ornately decorated club serves small plates from executive chef Didier Virot and a drinks list that includes beer, wine, cognacs, and other spirits in addition to cocktails.Julie Reiner—the mixologist behind Flatiron Lounge—opened Clover Club, another cocktail-focused joint, in mid-June. With 78 seats in the front and 30 in the private back parlor, this Victorian-inspired den in Brooklyn is worth the hike for those big on fancy cocktails. In addition to a selection of mixed drinks including punches, juleps, sours, and highballs, Clover Club also has bites for sharing.

Le Cirque may be one of the more formal restaurants in Manhattan, but earlier this year owner Sirio Maccioni debuted the Le Cirque Wine Lounge, an unstuffy section of the Midtown venue where patrons don't need to don a jacket. Anchored by a 20,000-bottle wine tower, this lounge is colorfully decorated in red and yellow, and offers a light menu of food paired with different varietals.
