1. White House Easter Egg Roll
This 130-year-old Easter tradition got an update for the April 13 roll: The 22,000 tickets were distributed online, so that families from across the country could attend the event, held on the south lawn of the White House.

2. A Capitol Fourth
Rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis and American Idol star Taylor Hicks provided tunes for this fireworks fest in 2008. Held on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the 29-year tradition is broadcast live on PBS.

3. Pageant of Peace/Lighting of the National Christmas Tree
The president and first lady traditionally help kick off the holiday season at this concert and lighting ceremony on the Ellipse. Tickets go to 2,800 members of the public for the event, which takes place the first week of December.

4. Memorial Day Concert
Military bands and choruses fill the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol for this remembrance celebration, held each year on the Sunday before Memorial Day.

5. Christmas in Washington
Singers Kristin Chenoweth and Darius Rucker entertained the crowd at the National Building Museum for this 27th annual December tradition in 2008. However, one notable name was missing: President Bush skipped the celebration for a surprise trip to Baghdad.
