During a week when New York's foodies certainly didn't lack for parties, Bon Appetit held its Chefs' Night Out event at Tuscan Steak. The party was right in the midst of all the hoopla surrounding the James Beard Foundation's awards, which included lots of food-and-wine-dominated events (and probably a lot of hangovers for the hard-partying restaurant industry types). This fairly rollicking party was held after the foundation's journalism awards, on the night before the foundation's big chef and restaurant awards.
In addition to Caryl Chinn, Bon Appetit's special events director, and Barbara Fairchild, the mag's editor in chief, we spotted Daniel's Daniel Boulud, La Caravelle's Rita Jammet, Myriad Restaurant Group's Drew Nieporent, Aquavit's Marcus Samuelsson, Craft's Tom Colicchio, Mesa Grill's Bobby Flay and Olives' Todd English.
We also saw industry PR people including Melanie Young of M. Young Communications (who works for the Beard foundation) and Karena Black of Susan Magrino Agency, and a lot of journalists, including Vogue's Jeffrey Steingarten and Gourmet editor in chief Ruth Reichl.
