Local 149 took over the former Farragut House in South Boston's Citypoint neighborhood in March. The 1,500-square-foot space has a 25-seat bar, a 65-seat dining room, and an alcove for semiprivate dining that seats six to eight. The entire venue is available for private, seated dinners for as many as 94 people.
The decor is reminiscent of the 1950s, with a backlit wall of vintage seltzer bottles and memorabilia like old boxing gloves and a Gulf gas sign. The furniture reflects the old-is-new theme, with reclaimed wood flooring from a Boston church and salvaged work benches as tables.
Local 149 serves dinner and Sunday brunch, and the menu reflects co-owner Jason Owens's Southern background, with entrées like organic chicken and waffles and pork sausage and chops. The bar program includes a craft cocktail list and 22 beers on tap.
Hosts can choose from the full menu for à la carte seated dinners or adapt the menu to create a buffet or passed hors d'oeuvres reception. The "night owl" small-bites menu, available regularly after 10 p.m., is also available for private events.
