The rooftop Japanese garden at the New Otani Hotel is a mini version of the 400-year-old garden at the New Otani in Tokyo.

The Japanese garden at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Garden features a temple bell, a moon bridge and reflecting ponds, canyons with spring-flowering trees, stone lanterns and pagodas, a traditional Japanese house, and a raked gravel Zen courtyard.

On a Hollywood hillside, Yamashiro is a replica of a Kyoto palace with a restaurant, a 600-year-old pagoda, lush Japanese gardens, and a koi pond.A blue-tile tea house at the center of the Japanese garden at Descanso Gardens is surrounded by a raked rock garden and koi-filled streams.

The James Irvine Garden (Seiryu-en, or Garden of the Clear Stream) at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center is an oasis in the central city. It was designed by Takeo Uesugi and was completed in 1979.
