1. RBC Canadian Open
Australian Nathan Green took the title at the 2009 Open, which attracted a crowd of more than 100,000 to Oakville’s Glen Abbey Golf Club. In 2010, 156 of the top players on the P.G.A. Tour will tee off at St. George’s Golf and Country Club for the 106th championship, presented by the Royal Canadian Golf Association. The tournament takes place July 19 to 25.

2. Honda Indy Toronto

The Nascar Canadian Tire Series, Canada’s only national racing championship, will be part of Honda Indy race weekend at Exhibition Place July 16 to 18.

3. Rogers Cup
Elena Dementieva of Russia captured the title at the Rexall Centre in 2009. This year, the women are headed to Montreal, while the top players in men’s tennis hit the courts at York University. The A.T.P. Tour stops in Toronto from August 7 to 15.

4. Telus Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival
More than 120,000 visitors are expected to watch 5,000 athletes from 180 teams compete in the 22nd annual festival, presented by the Toronto Chinese Business Association at Toronto Centre Island on June 19 and 20.

5. Queen’s Plate
Last year, Sam-Son Farm’s Eye of the Leopard won the title at the 150th running of the Queen’s Plate, the first jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing and the longest continuously run stakes race in North America. The 2010 event takes place at Woodbine Racetrack on July 4.

6. Toronto Marathon
The Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon, the city’s oldest, is set for October 17. More than 10,000 runners covered the 42-kilometre route from Mel Lastman Square to Queen’s Park in 2009. The race benefits the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

7. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala

Four hockey greats—Brett Hull, Brian Leetch, Luc Robitaille, and Steve Yzerman—were honoured at the induction ceremony in November. The event included a live broadcast from the Allen Lambert Galleria and a cocktail reception. Details for the 2010 were not set at press time.

8. Baycrest International Pro-Am Hockey Tournament
Hockey enthusiasts ages 25 and older can team up with former N.H.L. greats to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research at the fifth annual tournament, May 6 to 8 at York University’s Canlan Ice Sports.

9. Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon 
A record 3,000 participants ran the 2009 race, with another 17,000 taking part in the accompanying half marathon and five-kilometre run. The 2010 event, part of the Canada Running Series, takes place September 26.

10. N.C.A.A. International Bowl

American college football returned to Toronto on January 2 for a game between the University of South Florida Bulls and the Northern Illinois University Huskies. Thousands of fans filled the Rogers Centre to see the Bulls defeat the Huskies 27-3.
