It was a dark and eerie night before Halloween as the ghoulish and glamorous descended upon the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) for the gallery's second annual fund-raising costume ball. The vaunted gallery was haunted on this evening, as it was adorned with eerie art. The entrance was decorated with a tableau of Snow White enshrouded in a death-like sleep by artist Sherri Hay.
Guests sipped cocktails like red pomegranate martinis in the 'Black Forest' reception area. Projected on the walls were silhouettes of wolves running in the woods and Shary Boyle's hand-drawn images depicting some of the oddest of the Grimm Brothers' tales.
Design Sets Assembly and Steve Lucas and Theatre 2.0 put their touches on the scary atmosphere with smoking cauldrons and barren trees populated by creepy wildlife. Contemporary Furniture Rentals' chic lounges, in a chocolate and silver palette, included skull-shaped candles designed by artist Marcello Dalmao. In Walker Court, goblins performed in a huge tree that took up much of the room where dinner was catered by AGO executive chef Anne Yarymowich. Church Street Flowers' frightful foliage added to the atmosphere.
Original music composed by Richard Feren and tunes spun by DJ Andrew Hunt entertained guests.

Goblins roamed around a large tree at the Art Gallery of Ontario's Shadow Ball held the night before Halloween to raise money for the gallery.

Artist Shary Boyle's drawings of scenes from the Grimm Brothers' darkest tales were projected on the walls to add to the spooky ambiance.

Sculptor Marcello Dalmao's skull-shaped candles enhanced the creepy atmosphere at the benefit.
