Christmas in July

Organizers of the One of a Kind Show previewed holiday gift items in six styled vignettes, and got guests into the Christmas spirit with lit-up trees, decorations, and carolers.

In the midst of another holiday season—the prime time of the summer—organizers of the One of a Kind Show had the challenge of getting the media excited about Christmas gifts that could be featured in their upcoming publications.

The "Holiday Windows" theme of the preview aimed to capture the look of department stores' holiday displays using six vignettes created by interior stylist Janette Ewen. Each vignette included gift items from the show, and as a new feature this year, media guests received clipboards with the full list of products being shown, allowing them to check off items they wanted photographed or lent to them. The Church at Berkeley, a heritage site, provided an old-fashioned backdrop for the preview. "We chose this venue because we wanted to stay true to the brand, which is eclectic and artsy," said Natalie Cerny of Parallel Communications, who helped plan the event. Christmas trees, baubles, and six carolers helped create holiday ambience, while guests sipped on sparkling wine with strawberries and ate gingerbread and shortbread cookies.

The Holiday Windows theme and decor will be echoed and expanded on during the One of a Kind holiday show, which runs November 27 to December 7 at the Direct Energy Centre.
