Citrus Freeze Puts the Squeeze on Cocktails

It's been widely reported that a mid-January cold snap affecting about 70 percent of California's citrus groves will drive up the cost of lemons, limes, and oranges this winter. Now some bar owners and restaurateurs say we should forget Coronas with lime, mimosas at Sunday brunch, or any cocktail that calls for citrus for a while. On the food blog Eater, William Tigertt, owner of Lower East Side restaurant Freeman’s, says the freeze will force bars to drive up drink prices or start pushing liquor-heavy libations like Manhattans, sans the orange-peel garnish, of course. Plan your catering menus (and personal preferences) accordingly.
