1. THE BARTENDER DID IT: As many people had speculated, the person who secretly recorded Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney at a South Florida fund-raiser—where the candidate made his infamous comment about the "47 percent"—turned out to be a bartender hired for the evening. He may never work at events again, but speaking on Ed Shultz's show, he apologized to his employer but said "what was at stake was more important than my job." Mother Jones: http://bit.ly/13UDfku
2. BURNING MONEY: Officials from the Burning Man are fighting new taxes on its ticket sales but haven't given up the alternative of moving the music festival. Huffington Post: "Applying the Nevadas's five percent 'live entertainment' tax to ticket sales would generate more than $1 million for the state's coffers. But as it stands, Burning Man remains exempt from said fee, as the event is held outdoors. Burning Man executives, who recently traveled to Carson City to discuss the matter, officials argue that the festival itself provides enough of an economic boon to Nevada." http://huff.to/13Uor5v
3. MARVEL'S ROAD SHOW: Feld Entertainment will create a road show featuring Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor and the Fantastic Four. Even with production expenses estimated at more than $10 million, the investment is hardly a gamble: more people see Disney on Ice shows than attend Broadway shows in a year. New York Times: "These arena shows, once an entertainment industry backwater, have grown into important tools for media companies seeking to further exploit their creative franchises and deepen their brands, particularly among children. Arena shows can also help penetrate overseas markets; Disney only recently was able to introduce a cable channel in Russia, but its live shows have long toured there." http://nyti.ms/14Xt6Q9
