Diane von Furstenberg, the new president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, took a stand on an oft-debated meeting style issue last week. At a closed-door session for members at the W Hotel on Union Square on Thursday, she announced that she wants them to wear name tags. “I said, ‘Don’t be offended if I ask you to wear one,’” the designer told Women’s Wear Daily. “And I said, ‘I have gone to conferences with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates putting little names on, so I think we can, too.’”
In related news, von Furstenberg also pledged to work closely with the city and Mayor Bloomberg to find a new venue for Fashion Week—and discussed the concept of developing a permanent Fashion Center with space for events, fashion shows, and conferences. She’s also looking to change the dates for this September’s shows, which currently overlap with Rosh Hashanah. The week is likely to shift to Wednesday, September 5, to Wednesday, September 12.
