In an update to yesterday's news that the Cipriani Group's lease at the Rainbow Room has been terminated, The New York Post reported that the company is taking its landlord to court. Filed at the Manhattan Supreme Court, the suit seeks to prevent Tishman Speyer from kicking Cipriani out of the Rockefeller Center location. While the battle between the two companies continues, a judge has allowed the Rainbow Room to stay open until January 27.
Regardless of the outcome, some media outlets are already responding to the rumors that the Rainbow Room might be replaced by office space. Yesterday, an editorial in The New York Times said "losing the Rainbow Room would mean losing a landmark" and the establishment is as iconic to the Midtown area as the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
