
The Pacific-12 Football Championship Game took place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on December 5. At a pregame tailgate party, guests could write messages in support of their favorite teams on a chalkboard wall. The wall also featured the Pacific-12 Conference's official hashtag, which attendees were encouraged to use in social media posts.

Creative Time split its November Fall Ball into two parts, hosting events on two consecutive nights at NeueHouse in New York. The first night was a sleepover, enabling patrons to stay overnight. Pillows became part of the decor inside the venue, and the producers mounted a bed to a wall near the entrance and video mapped the itinerary on its surface. The event took place in late November.

Appeal to your guests’ senses of sight and sound with Moey’s Interactive Garden. The colorful installation is a 24-foot-long structure that has 60 3-D-printed flowers in it. The flowers have embedded motion sensors that pick up on peoples’ movement, proximity, and the amount of time they spend nearby. Based on those inputs, the flowers generate music, and LED lights inside change color.

Groupon, the daily deal website, hosted its holiday party at Chicago's Aragon Theater on December 12. The event had a World's Fair theme, and Sound Investment handled the lighting and also collected World's Fair-related videos and graphics to broadcast on large screens. Event Creative handled decor and created custom carnival-game booths.

Here's an idea for stylishly dividing up a large event space: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation celebrated with its annual Breath of Life gala at the National Building Museum in Washington in 2011. Streamers divided the National Building Museum atrium into three spaces.


Best Events produced the Weinstein fete, as it has for more than two decades (including when the company was known as Miramax). For this year, the party’s longtime location, the old Trader Vic’s space, had been demolished, so the party moved to the old Robinson’s-May parking lot adjacent to the Fox party. Given the former structure there had also been demolished, the event took place in a big dirt lot that Best graded to make it level enough for a huge tent. Instead of separate spaces for viewing and after-parties, this year the team used one large area, divided by fabric drapery.

Rustic accents and greenery punctuated Fox's party space in the old Robinson's-May area. Greenery spilled from chandeliers and Edison-style bulbs hung from overhead beams.

For the NBC Universal Golden Globes party, designer-producer Angel City Designs used a palette of blue hues, paired with gold and chartreuse accents. Large ellipse lighting elements in two sizes illuminated both the dining area and vintage-style velvet lounge furniture groupings.

Hot pink flowers from CJ Matsumoto & Sons topped long navy banquet tables. The party took place under a 100- by 200-foot tented structure from Classic Party Rentals.

BuzzFeed's new entry onto the Golden Globes party circuit this year was a 200-guest affair at the Eveleigh on Thursday. The event included a Hollywood-theme GIF booth, tarot card predictions for the new year, and stickers that resembled the site's iconic badges such as OMG, Wtf, Win, and LOL.

W hosted a Saturday event at A.O.C. celebrating people the magazine designated as Hollywood It girls. Piaget and Dom Pérignon sponsored the luncheon, where guests including Kim Kardashian and Allison Williams dined at tables accented with pops of pink.




Students from the New York School of Interior Design (working with design mentor Clodagh) used rope to create a dramatic setting. In lieu of any type of centerpiece, a chandelier of Lucite and filament bulbs was reflected in a mirror running down the table's center.

Echodesign's space had a modern tribal feel, with a feather chandelier, printed fabric panels, and a patterned table runner that extended down to the floor.




























The 2013 event took place at a Los Angeles mansion, and black-and-white decor took on a residential feel. To celebrate the heritage of British Airways, the Union Jack appeared on black-and-white pillows at a seating group that surrounded a modern fire pit.

In 2012, the symphony decked its ball in elegant, black-and-white decor from Blueprint Studios.

In 2010, the summertime event took place at an East Hampton sculpture garden and preserve. Presenting a more casual take on the black-and-white theme, planners erected a tented white lounge with large black scrims. The scrims displayed lyrics from honoree Laurie Anderson's songs, including "Falling," "Strange Perfumes," and "Thinking of You."

At the 2011 fund-raiser in Miami, Truman Capote's famous Black and White Ball inspired the look. Deco Productions created two 16- by 42-foot prints to display on either side of the stage, one showing a reclining model, the other showing a large eyeball. Each was divided into six individually framed panels and suspended from the ceiling.

Todd Events designed the October 2013 event at the Rachofsky House in Dallas. "The black-and-white theme was selected because every year the event has an honorary artist," said a rep for the company. "The artist from last year worked in a black-and-white medium for his art pieces, so we played the event decor off that." Tables were decked with striped linens and glassware that reflected the theme.

Instead of a red carpet, designers laid down a black-and-white-striped carpet at the entrance.

For the 2008 event in Toronto, graffiti artist Mike Echlin painted trees against a black backdrop for a haunted-forest effect.

The museum hosted a gala in 2013 to fete its "Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity" exhibition. Event designer Bill Heffernan of HMR Design Group used a black-and-white color scheme inspired by some of the 19th-century dresses on display. To complement the fashion-inspired setting, tables were topped with 19th-century-style wire urns set atop black-and-white hat boxes.

The 2006 ball had a look inspired by writer and illustrator Edward Gorey. Grayson Bakula Design's enchanted forest looked slightly more sinister with Bentley Meeker's barren branch projections.

The 2011 event in Boston had a Batman theme. In a subterranean carnival area, black-and-white signs for sponsors hung above the games. Winners received prizes from the designated sponsor.

At the museum's 2012 event, a streamlined, modern bar stood at the center of the room with an arrangement of black-and-white lanterns hanging overhead.

Striped tablecloths and mismatched seating offered a funky take on the theme at the 2011 event in Los Angeles. White messages decorated black walls in the dining room, and bright green floral arrangements added a pop of color.



















The recently renovated Marriott Stanton South Beach in Miami Beach has debuted “Selfie Spots,” five areas within the beachfront hotel designated as the perfect place to snap selfies. The areas are marked by a circular sticker and have the hashtag #StantonSelfie and the hotel’s social handles.


At ESPN's Super Bowl party, sponsors' names—including Coors Light, Curve Sport, and Omnia Nightclub by Hakkasan Group—appeared on a desert-inspired step-and-repeat that had a sandy tan carpet in lieu of a red one. The look was inspired by the party's location in Phoenix. Lauren Robinson, ESPN's associate director of sport management, worked with 11-time event producer Tony Schubert of Event Eleven to produce and design the event.

Rolling Stone hosted Rolling Stone Live on January 31 at the Venue Scottsdale. Toast, Bookem Danno, and Talent Resources Sports produced the music magazine's Super Bowl event. Miller Lite was a sponsor, and 24-ounce cans of the product formed an eight-foot decorative wall at the entrance to the venue. As guests entered, brand ambassadors wearing biker-inspired costumes handed them a can.













A custom-built two-man serving tray, decorated with artificial turf and mini soccer balls, housed bite-size cones filled with Brazilian chicken salad. The menu also included traditional BBQ picanha with mango jicama salad, authentic cheese-stuffed buns, honey-lime glazed shrimp, and homemade churros.

Kinetic Lighting bathed the Tournament House in softly swirling patterns reminiscent of roses.



The Toronto Reference Library was lit up in pink lights for the February 5 black-tie affair. Paying tribute to the host location, servers dressed as librarians used book carts to deliver snacks.

This year's Governors Ball drew inspiration from cinematic history, with 3,000 photos from the academy’s archives used as decor. Cheryl Cecchetto and Sequoia Productions designed and produced the event, which was held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland on February 22.

At W magazine's "It Girl" luncheon, held January 10 at A.O.C. in West Hollywood, guests, including Kim Kardashian and Allison Williams, dined at tables with crisp white table linens accented with pops of pink roses.

White pillar and votive candles, along with simple blooms, decorated the understated tabletop at the Barneys New York and Oxfam benefit dinner hosted by Rooney Mara, which was held at Chateau Marmont on February 18.

A room with heavy draping by Revelry showcased a lace-topped table, which also served as Instagram bait for the social media-minded guests. Social media prompts on the floor encouraged and guided their posts.

Purple flowers in ombre arrangements ran the length of the cookie-decorating table.
