To describe the Martini Club's annual Drinks Show as a cocktail party would be a vast understatement. Yes, it's a party, and cocktails are served. But just as cocktails are, for an aficionado, much more than drinks—the alcohol, mix, and garnishes; the taste, smell, and colour; and even the shape of the glass all add up to a unique experience—the Drinks Show is an event extravaganza with spectacular decor, lighting, music, food, and, of course, drinks. This year's show at Muzik featured a liquid theme expressed through a range of aquatic decor elements. Water walls from Solar Aquatics delineated the lounge area, which featured rectangular water columns with bench seating. Dry ice partly added a sense of mystery to a centrally located water fountain with a raised DJ platform in the middle. The words Get Wet decorated a wall of ice from Iceculture at the front of the booth. Other Iceculture contributions included carvings of mermaids and accent pieces such as a collage of rectangular ice blocks filled with fresh bamboo "stir" sticks.Michelle Hunt, Drinks Show president and a partner at the Martini Club, said she felt the decor "had a sexy vibe in tune with modern cocktail culture." When not ogling the surroundings, guests sampled cocktails created with a range of alcohol ingredients, including Pama, a new pomegranate-flavoured liqueur; Smirnoff Penka, a new premium vodka; and Absolut's new Ruby Red vodka. Recipe cards from Eyecon Creative promoted the signature drinks served at the various bars. Oyster Boy and Rice Bar provided catering, the first serving fresh shucked oysters, the latter, Asian fusion snacks.
Outside, white linen formed the tops and sides of black, wrought-iron smoking shelters from Signature Rentals. White leather benches and ottomans and white plexiglass coffee tables furnished the gazebo structures, making them more retreats than smoking shelters. Indeed, Spaparty.com was on hand providing massages and mini manicures to guests who desired them.
