Here’s a look at 10 highlights from our event coverage this week, including Nokia's concert in Times Square, Diesel's Chicago dinner party, the White House Easter Egg Roll, Christie’s Green Auction, and WrestleMania in Miami.
Nokia Lumia 900 Launch

To create buzz around its latest handset, Nokia U.S. staged a large-scale promotion that took over Times Square on April 6 with a live performance by Nicki Minaj and the use of nine LED displays. The centerpiece of the publicity stunt was a live remix of Minaj’s “Starships” song, which had DJ Doorly on the decks while dancers in Nokia-branded lab coats moved through the crowd.

WrestleMania Week Premiere Party

WWE held a week of tie-in events throughout the Miami area to promote WrestleMania XXVIII, which brought a record 78,000 people to Sun Life Stadium on April 1. A red carpet premiere party for 300 took place in a private home on Star Island on March 29. The evening featured a silent auction with artwork by WWE superstars, a fashion runway with WWE Divas modeling designs, and a dance party featuring Timabaland as host and DJ.

White House Easter Egg Roll

With a theme of “Let's Go, Let's Play, Let's Move,” the 134th annual White House Easter Egg Roll promoted physical fitness and healthy eating. Sports figures led activities for children, and celebrity chefs performed cooking demonstrations. About 35,000 people attended, joining costumed characters like the Easter Bunny, Elmo, and Captain America on the South Lawn for games, stories, and the traditional egg roll.

Discovery Communications Upfront

To incorporate its individual TV brands into its post-presentation reception, Discovery Communications created a series of vignettes inside Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. The April 5 event included an area for TLC, where Craft Wars producer and host Tori Spelling could mingle and pose for photos with guests.

Christie’s Green Auction

As a way to incorporate presenting sponsor JW Marriott, the organizers of the Christie’s Green Auction added some quirky elements to the Wednesday-night event’s decor. In addition to a lounge space with a showcase of the hotel company’s organic honey, the affair at Christie’s Auction House in New York had a topiary in the shape of the hotel brand's griffin logo.

FidoCares Tour Launch Party

Wireless provider Fido launched its FidoCares Tour in Dundas Square on Thursday. Promoting the brand’s charitable partners like the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and Evergreen, the event invited people to bring their dogs to the public square, tour the pet-friendly mobile unit, and take them through a dog obstacle course. The tour will be heavily promoted on the Fido Facebook page and will travel across Canada for the next eight months.

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment’s ‘The Witcher 2’ Launch

A launch party for The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings took place April 6 at the Brahmin in Boston. The Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment game will become available to the public next week; at the event, guests got to try it out at seven Xbox stations.

Hennessy's “Wild Rabbit” Campaign Launch

For the New York launch of its latest consumer campaign, Hennessy brought Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott (pictured), and Timbaland to perform at Highline Stages on April 5.

Pearls of Purpose

Jewelry shopping supported girl power at the sixth annual Pearls of Purpose gala April 3 in Washington, hosted by FAIR Girls, an organization that aims to prevent the exploitation of girls worldwide through empowerment and education. The gala at the Carnegie Institute of Science saw 250 guests perusing a bazaar of jewelry created by JewelGirls, an economic-empowerment and therapeutic-art program. Tina Tchen, chief of staff for Michelle Obama and executive director of the White House Council on Women and Girls, spoke.

Diesel’s In-Store Dinner Party

To introduce five new styles of women's jeans to local shoppers, Diesel hosted a dinner party at its Chicago store on April 4. Event Creative designers set up apartment vignettes throughout the shop meant to channel a posh office, living room, and bedroom. Designer Meredith Treinen said she threw in a "not-quite-perfectly-placed throw pillow, lipstick on a coffee mug, that little to-do list that you leave by your computer—little things that made the space really feel like guests were coming over to their best girlfriend's place for dinner."
