Earlier this month, Pantone announced its Color of the Year for 2023: PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta, an animated red that “encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint.” The crimson red tone is considered a hybrid color that straddles both the physical and virtual realms.
“As virtual worlds become a more prominent part of our daily lives, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real,” said Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement. “PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family, as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known. Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
For the fourth consecutive year, Pantone and its longtime creative partner Huge have collaborated with ARTECHOUSE to design a custom immersive experience that allows the public to explore “the Magentaverse.” The exhibition features immersive rooms with textures and interactions that plunge attendees into visual, auditory, and tactile experiences. For the first time, the exhibit is taking place at ARTECHOUSE Miami.
Pantone also partnered with Motorola, Hydrow, Spoonflower, Engine Gin, and Cariuma to produce products, including rowing machines, using the magenta color.
In terms of event design, the red tone can provide a rich pop of color through accent furniture, florals, and more. Here are some inspiring ways to incorporate Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year into your upcoming events...
