The old Wyndham Washington, D.C. hotel has been
rechristened as the Westin Washington, D.C. City Center after a 14-month
renovation that cost more than $30 million. Owned and operated by Starwood
Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, the new Westin—the brand's third property here—opened
on April 20 and is five blocks from both the Washington Convention
Center and the White House.
The site has more than 16,000 square feet of event space, including 12 meeting rooms, two board rooms that each accommodate 15, and a ballroom that can be divided into two spaces for 300 and 600. The hotel’s 400 guest rooms and 13 suites feature the much-promoted Heavenly Bed, wireless Internet, and 32-inch flat-screen TVs. Reebok Gym manages the in-house workout facility, which also features Liquid 14, a light-fare café. Named after the hotel’s address, 1400 M Street, the 130-seat 1400 North reigns as the hotel’s dining destination, featuring a private room for 34 and a classic American menu courtesy of executive chef Rajeev Seth.
