In the works since 2004, the Sports Museum of America is slated to debut in April 2008. Despite a move (from 25 Broadway to a site across the street) and a name change (from the National Sports Museum), the plans for the downtown facility still include a permanent residence for the Heisman Trophy. Within the 35,000-square-foot institution is 8,000 square feet of flexible event space, including on-site catering prep facilities. The room holds a maximum of 450 seated, and receptions can expand into the exhibition space. Restaurant Associates will handle food service.
