2. EXCLUSIVE CULINARY RETREAT COMES TO THE U.S.: Most retreat guests would not appreciate being told to come up with their own meals. But at Cook It Raw, an exclusive gathering of chefs that first came to the United States this October, that is the challenge. New York Times: “Cook It Raw has nothing to do with raw food. Its guiding idea is to strip cooking to its raw elements: foraging, hunting, fishing, farming and low-tech skills like butchery and cooking over fire. A taste of the wild—hunting deer, gathering mushrooms, pulling wasabi from creek beds—is part of each carefully orchestrated and extensively documented program. … The chosen ones are considered kitchen innovators whose work displays a respect for agricultural tradition and a command of culinary technology.” http://nyti.ms/1hKWQsW
3. HOUSTON ASTRODOME FACES DEMOLITION: Voters rejected a plan to turn the Houston Astrodome into a convention and event center, meaning that the world’s first domed stadium faces demolition. Associated Press: “The referendum had called for creating 350,000 square feet of exhibition space by removing the interior seats and raising the floor to street level. Other changes included creating 400,000 square feet of plaza and green space on the outside of the structure as part of the project, dubbed ‘The New Dome Experience.’ A coalition of local and national preservation groups as well as a political action committee had banded together to try to convince voters that the Astrodome should be reborn, not razed.” http://es.pn/19AWMbM
