We asked a sample of people involved in gift events around town this Oscar week if they’ve seen any egregious celebrity stuff-hoarding. This is what we heard (on the record, that is).
“It’s the people you don’t see in movies lately who want everything. You’re like, ‘I knew that guy from seven years ago,’ and he wants it all. I saw Roseanne [Barr] at one of our gifting events, and she wanted an extra large in something and we only had a large, and she got so snooty. She handed me her publicist’s card [to send the item later] in a huff and walked away.”
—Marie Dasaro, publicist for Think PR
“There’s no celebrities I’ve ever seen do it. I’ve heard, ‘I have enough, thank you.’ I’ve never seen a celebrity blatantly grabbing anything. It’s usually the publicists.”
—John Stapleton, senior artist for M.A.C.
“This is the first gifting suite we’ve ever done, and we’re doing the Soho House’s event because of our proximity to their property in New York—we thought it would be a good match for our brand. But who’s getting greedy for what? It’s only the first day. Ask me later in the week and I’ll have stories.”
